Personalised Silver - Our Story

 

 

 

Hi, I am Mandy at Personalised Silver, we are a husband and wife team, family run business.

Peter is the hand engraver and jeweller and I run the business side and assist with the jewellery polishing and designing.

 

 

Background

Peter

At the age of 17 started work as an apprentice hand engraver at a jewellery manufacturer in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter and also had the fantastic opportunity to train with a Master Engraver.  Training at the Birmingham Jewellery College.  After this he became a full time hand engraver and did a 2 year night school class of silversmithing and an allied crafts course.

In 1989 at the age of 22,  he moved to a jewellery manufacturer in Warwickshire (where we met) and continued night school training at a jewellery setting course.

In 2005, he became self employed and hand engraved for a range of Jeweller’s, silversmiths, royalty and crests for prestige businessmen and members of parliament.

 

Mandy

In 1989 at the age of 17 I started working at a jewellery manufacturer in Warwickshire, polishing gold and silver rings, then went on to work in the precious stones department sorting and grading diamonds. 

I then studied typing, shorthand and had several secretarial jobs.  At night school I studied AAT – Association of Accounting Technicians and then CIMA – Chartered Institute of Management Accountants and worked in Assistant Accountant to Finance Manager and Accountant positions.

In 2004 we had our first child and whilst on maternity leave we started selling on Ebay – Hand Engraving Silver Jewellery.  After a successful year we decided to set up the website and business - Personalised Silver in 2005.  We then ran Personalised Silver and Ebay side by side, eventually moving entirely over to selling on the website.

From 2005 – 2010 I worked part time as an accountant and part time for Personalised Silver.

 

In 2011 we moved to Herefordshire and we both work full time for Personalised Silver.

We have built the company up from 2005 from only stocking a small range of jewellery to now stocking sterling silver gifts, bookmarks, christening gifts, wedding gifts and a large range of jewellery for men, children and women.

 

Hand Engraving

The quality of Hand Engraving is non comparable to machine engraving.  All of our work is hand engraved,  the skill, artistic touch and quality is far superior to machine engraving.

Workshop

We have our own workshop and all of the hand engraving is done on site by us.

We are passionate about bringing beautiful handcrafted jewellery and hand engraving direct to the public.  Our business is built on love, trust, quality and the personal touch dealing directly with the owners. 

 

Experience

We have over 39 years of experience in the jewellery industry and are experienced hand engravers and silversmithing, we can make handmade jewellery from scratch to finished product.  We only deal with quality products and raw materials with reputable suppliers.

 

 We can hand engrave lettering, crests, seals, any designs. 

 

Associations

We are a member of several associations.

 

The Hand Engravers Association – An association raising the awareness of Hand Engraving as a skill and dying art.

 

The Guild of Jewellery Designers – An association for jewellery designers and handmade jewellers

 

Assay Assured – This is a trust mark for online jewellery retailers.  As there is so much counterfeit and fake jewellery online you can be assured that we have been audited by Assay Assured and ensure that we comply with the regulations relating to hallmarking.

 

Hallmark –  We have our own hallmark PM and use Birmingham Assay Office.
